Memories of Heidelberg

Well I am back from the trip. The conference was excellent and Heidelberg a memorable place to visit. The ISPI Europe conference was a great experience, and my presentation (on wikis) was well received.

As you may recall, I was born in Heidelberg. I was only 1 or 2 when we moved back to the states. I made my first visit back in 1996, and wrote a song about it. The song is called Old Town, and it's on the new cd. I am going to try to upload an mp3 if anyone is interested. Music and lyrics by me. I play the instruments (virtually, of course) and sing backup. My good friend from 35+ years is singing lead.

A second called Home also available here. There are twelve tracks in all. Comments welcome.

The songs should open in a new window. Or you can just right-click and download the files. Old Town rocks, and Home is mellower.

I can see why you opted to go to Europe instead of AECT Conference. I went to the AECT conference two weeks ago and was amazed at all that is going on. It would have been great to see what topics were addressed in Germany.

Heidelberg, or at least the pics on the conference site, is really an interesting looking place...old, definitely.

Some of my relations still live in one of the ancestral homes in Goterschloh (my spelling is not exactly correct, I'm sure.) It's somewhere east of the Holland border.

My cousin who's a professor at Heidelberg, I believe that's the university he's at, has a son about my son's age and they both get together and play Bach. Way cool! His son's has a Christian metal band and he's primarily a drummer but plays a stringed instrument, too. I'd really like to get over there and see them...get my son to go with. That'd be fun. But I want to go to Scotland and Ireland, too.

I always knew there was a reason I liked you as an instructor Dr.West! Do I hear some Yes inflections in the song? Even if you are only playing the instruments virtually it is still much more than many of us can do. I know scads of people who can rock on the air guitar, but that is about it. I was fortunate enough to hear some excellent music on Saturday myself, some friends of mine were at the Cafe Aroma (next to the Vineyard Church) playing all original songs (as far as I could tell), then I went up town to the Cafe and saw an old favorite of mine named Springfield Shaky. I missed him the last two times he played in Macomb and I was told that he was even better than before, and the people that told me were RIGHT!!! I was unable to stay awake until he got to his last set which is loaded with some hard rockin' blues numbers. Needless to say I had a GREAT time. He will be back at the Cafe on December 14th starting at ten o'clock, don't miss it, if you like blues you will not be sorry.

Dr. West, I don't think I can call you that any longer. I think a new name is in order! Wow, I am impressed. I cannot even do karoke, but you can sing. Ever done and musical theater, you have a great voice as does the lead. I can't wait to share with Tyler he will love it. He is so into guitar hero, I am sure he can appreciate what you have done here. Well, like I said I enjoyed the entertainment and the nice break from the routine! You rock man, Kudos!!!! By far the best prof yet. Maybe I will stop for a command performance see ya!
